From the supplier: The Washoe County School District in NV, comprised of 44,000 students, is the beneficiary of a bond issue that provides $13.2 million for funds to upgrade the district's instructional and administrative technology. The district is using an outside integrator, BDM Education Technologies, to revamp the student information system, business system, and instructional labs and tools. The project was broken into multiple pieces, and a management team was established to view the entire project from a cross-functional perspective. The district's new ISDN-based WAN links all schools and includes about 10,000 nodes. Elementary schools have been able to participate in electronic field trips, and networks extend to classrooms in middle and high schools. Instructors will be able to use the student information system directly from their desks, and an automated Help Desk is now solve many problems without adding any extra staff.
