From the supplier: Florida Atlantic Univ collaborates with Jupiter Community High School to launch Palm Beach County Geographic Information System (GIS), which can provide innovative methods for teaching environmental education in the high school classroom. The GIS curriculum promotes the search for solutions to environmental issues and provides a model for systemic reform. Students are exposed to issues such as coordinating relief to natural disasters, and have the opportunity to collect data and come up with solutions to real problems. By giving the students the opportunity to solve real-life problems, the GIS program gives students a solid environmental ethic. The GIS curriculum provides links with other disciplines such as social sciences and mathematics. The curriculum can be adapted to different levels, and often incorporates field experience to collect data. GIS instruction allows the students to go beyond simple instruction and develop skills that are relevant to important global issues.
