From the supplier: Many higher educational institutions and school districts are integrating technology-based departments and services including business, academic, telecommunications and instructional planning and research departments. Computers were first used in the business administration departments of many schools before achieving broader implementation. Typically, separate systems, support personnel and reporting hierarchies existed for each department. That is changing as institutions recognize that a more organic approach can increase profits, lower costs, increase efficiency and facilitate ease of use. Many institutions are making the change with help from outside contractors.
