From the supplier: Newsroom diversity should be viewed as a good business practice that improves competitiveness and productivity. Newspapers have tended to treat diversity as a separate social issue, rather than meshing it with the overall business plan. Newsroom tensions have flared because some white staffers resent the hiring and promotion of minorities because they think that standards have been lowered for minorities. Black staffers think that their abilities are not being recognized. Diversity hiring may be more welcomed if presented in a business context.
