From the supplier: Misconceptions about the coal industry are undermining the value of coal as an investment. Many still associate coal mining with the three Ds, dirty, damp and dangerous, and with picks and black-lung disease. Chand B. Vyas, CEO of Fairveiw Heights, IL-based Zeigler Coal, is campaigning hard to dispel these misperceptions and to educate the investment community about the potential of the coal industry. He stresses that coal has always played an important role in the American economy and is one of the cheapest and best sources of energy. Vyas's efforts to promote coal as an investment may soon receive a much needed boost from the deregulation of electric utilities. The industry is increasingly consolidating, which may reduce the number of competing coal companies to just five or six.
