From the supplier: The Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989 was enacted to prevent the recurrence of the savings and loan crisis of the late 1980s. It has provisions for the resolution of bankrupt savings and loan (S&L) associations and imposes limits on the activities of these financial institutions. A study is conducted to examine whether FIRREA had any wealth effect for some of the bigger, exchange-traded S&Ls. The results show that market reaction to the law was favorable.
