From the supplier: House Banking Committee Chairman Jim Leach is criticizing Comptroller of the Currency Eugene Ludwig for using improper Congressional authority to expand banks' ability to sell insurance and to enter other markets. Leach said that the Office of the Comptroller (OCC)'s policy is blatently against the law and would undermine state rights. Specifically, Leach said that permission given Magna Bank of Brentwood, MO, to keep its insurance subsidiary seems to violate the National Bank Act.
