From the supplier: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch announced that its columnist, Elaine Viets, has resigned when she failed to report for work on Jan. 2, 1996 at the paper's St. Louis, MO, office. Viets insists that she was fired when she chose to report at the Washington bureau instead. Viets has been writing her column from Washington since Jun. 1994. Although her request for extension has been granted once, another request made the management give Viets an ultimatum to either report for work in Missouri or resign. Post Editor William F. Woo and Viets have been meeting to work out their strife.
