From the supplier: House Banking Committee Chair Jim Leach is proposing a bill that would have the states regulate the selling and underwriting of insurance by bank holding companies within their borders. Under the proposal, bank holding companies would be permitted to form insurance agency and underwriting subsidiaries. Also, the office of the comptroller of currency would be stripped of the authority to endow national banks with insurance powers as opposed to bank holding companies.
