From the supplier: Texas Insurance Commissioner Elton Bomer turned down medical malpractice insurers' proposed premium rate increases. The increases would have required state doctors to spend an additional $32 million more for professional liability insurance, which Bomer had deemed essential and therefore in need of being reasonable and not excessive. Medical Protective Co, which holds 25.3% of the market, had attempted to increase rates 22.9%. Bomer requests that the insurers resubmit proposals for lower rate increases.
