From the supplier: The collapse of Lacey V. Murrow Floating Bridge in Washington State has raised important construction and planning issues involved with pontoon bridges in general. Investigators determined that the sinking of the bridge during rehabilitation was caused by water collecting in the pontoons, and the cracking of pontoon splices caused by years of wear and strain. A new design will use higher-performance concrete, post tensioning of the pontoons, and an egg-carton pontoon design to strengthen the structure.
