From the supplier: Insurance underwriters are less likely to oppose enabling banks to sell insurance than they were in the past, although agents still remain opposed to current federal legislation which will increase bank product powers. Historically, Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut has sponsored amendments which prohibit banks from entering the insurance market, but now that companies are beginning to regard banks as just another distribution channel, Dodd has changed his position. Agents' and firms' reactions to the recent Barnett Banks Supreme Court ruling are discussed.
