From the author: In 1994, The Human Resource Planning Society Board, in response to requests from its members to help them anticipate the needs of the future, created a committee charged with scanning the future of HR called the State-of-the-Art (SOTA) Council. Under the direction of Michael Takla, the President of HRPS, the initial committee consisted of Bob Eichinger and Dave Ulrich. Bob and Dave laid out a methodology to capture what some thought leaders envisioned as the state-of-the-art for HR professionals. The report was developed in three sections and published as a monograph by HRPS entitled Human Resource Challenges: Today and Tomorrow. Presented here is the future trends section of the report and the implications for HR professionals.

The factors considered as key determinants of business change over the next five to seven years are surveyed from thought leaders.
