From the supplier: Critics' focus on present South African literature is usually on fiction. However, poetry, both oral and written, is also on its renaissance. Though used as a means to express political conviction, the best have transcended sloganeering, paying equal attention to the craft as to the content. The poets have also taken a critical stance not only towards those whom they oppose, but also within their ranks. Postapartheid poetry has taken up other issues, such as its colonial past, the growing middle class and feminism.
