From the supplier: The Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing and Huairou in Sep. 1995 had contradictory effects on Chinese feminists. International networks may have been developed on a significantly greater scale than in the past. However, Chinese feminists working in research institutions, universities and the Women's Federation reported that several of China's most pressing problems have not really been addressed. Economic reforms were found to be creating new problems for women and Chinese women were found to need a new kind of consciousness of themselves as women.
