From the supplier: The Hawaii Department of Education (DOE) adopted Lotus Notes to be the catalyst for steady collaboration and information sharing as part of its Success Compact literacy initiative. The 231 schools' 4,200 users interact through the Lotus Total Campus Option Plan. DOE chose Lotus Notes based on its position as an industry leader, its advanced server replication functionality, cross-platform client availability and its suitability for the envisioned knowledge-sharing and team requirements. The initial focus of the implementation centered around administrative functions and has since shifted to supporting instruction. Notes' ability to increase a network's collaborative flow lead to several discussion databases and remote-client options. Its electronic-document management functions allow teachers to disseminate announcements and curriculum changes instantly. Overall, the use of groupware by DOE increased productivity for the entire region's schools.
