From the supplier: Nearly 75% of the world's poor and undernourished people live in rural areas where food is grown. Poverty and hunger can be reduced by promoting rural development, specifically the development of small holder agricultural economy. Aside from fighting poverty, bolstering agricultural output all over the world and improving health and nutrition can help ensure food security. To improve food supplies, governments need to encourage technological change, increase the efficiency of irrigation and improve natural resource management. Access to food can be improved by strengthening markets and agribusiness, providing education and health services to both boys and girls, investing in infrastructure, and promoting broad participation. Finally, to improve food utilization, household food security and nutrition policy should be integrated into rural development operations.
