From the supplier: A better understanding of the brain's basal ganglia may help nurses assess movement disorders in psychiatric patients. The basal ganglia are located within the brain's gray matter and are composed of three parts. Their role is to facilitate appropriate motor control, as well as to enhance verbal and dexterity skills. Excessive and decreased movement disorders and dystonias or abnormal positioning of body parts may be traced to problems of the basal ganglia.
