From the supplier: Historical studies on the effects of hypoxia on man have indirectly stimulated more definitive studies in the light of problems faced by holding world class competitions at moderate altitudes. The earliest recorded effect of hypoxia was that of Teen Han Shoo around 30 BC in describing a journey from the western regions to the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan. Father Joseph de Acosta in circa 1539-1600 described his physical symptoms when walking in the Andes. The invention of ballooning in the 18th century provided the impetus for research into the effects of hypoxia.
