From the supplier: The Episcopal Church of the United States is struggling with the issue of homosexuality and is very class-bound. At the 1997 General Convention of the church, it was clear that it is dominated by upper-middle-class concerns. That class does not have sexual liberation high on its list of concerns but is fundamentally congenial to the gay lobby, although in general it does not enthuse over the homosexual agenda. Complacent acceptance of the gay agenda was very class-determined. Supporters of the gay agenda are responding to what they see as success in urban parishes. Obsession with that which is upper-middle-class greatly limits the range of potential members.
