HIV infection and its consequence, AIDS, affects not only the individual patients but also their relatives and the community as a whole. At present, health care professionals are at the forefront of providing care for AIDS and HIV patients. However, HIV and AIDS has important social dimensions. For this reason, social workers are beginning to play more important roles in the care and treatment of HIV and AIDS patients.
