From the supplier: Anesthesiologists should not focus on malpractice liability issues because they are largely protected by the American Society of Anesthesiologists' practice standards and the sophisticated monitoring equipment used. Accusers must prove not only that the anesthesiologist failed to meet the standard of care but also that this failure caused or contributed to the injury. Therefore, anesthesiologists should just do their best job and not practice defensive medicine, which is more likely to harm the patient by giving inadequate care.
