From the supplier: Beloit College, a liberal arts college in Wisconsin, installed an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network from 3Com. The college selected ATM technology over other networks because it allows for managed growth and has enough bandwidth to accomodate data, graphics and video. Beloit's network consists of four CELLplex 7000HD ATM switches from 3Com. The college manages the network using Transcend Enterprise Manager. Three of the ATM switches are configured with 7600T Fast Ethernet interface cards, which allows the college to migrate from the college's existing 10 Mbps network interface cards. Faculty have used the ATM network to enhance their curriculum, and administrators have used the network to streamline procedures. One German literature class was able to email German poet Ulla Hahn.
