From the supplier: Attention is being focused on the housing needs of the elderly in view of the aging of the enormous Baby Boom generation. A survey conducted by the American Assn of Retired Persons (AARP) reveals that most Americans (83%) aged 50 and older would like to remain in their own homes as they grow older. For the housing industry, this presents the challenge of redesigning houses so that they will meet the changing physical capabilities and living desires of their aging residents. There may also be a rise in demand for houses that are located near banks, grocery stores, the post office and other services. The AARP survey also indicates that many senior citizens (69%) would prefer to move to some kind of care facility when they are no longer able to live on their own. Many elderly housing are already designed to meet their residents' desire for a more residential rather than an institutional look.
