From the supplier: The use of mediation in divorce has become popular but most mediators are not trained as lawyers and so the settlement reached in mediation may not be fair or reasonable. Often, clients must turn to lawyers after the mediation process or during it, significantly increasing the expense. A new trend toward lawyers as mediators could resolve some of these difficulties. Lawyer-mediators could provide divorcing couples with a less adversarial alternative while also providing the expertise of matrimonial law specialists.
