From the supplier: The American lifestyle is envied and copied all over the world. In Chile, for example, the American culture is visible in shopping malls and the increasing consumption of imported American goods. The trend, however is not without its serious consequences on the local economy. Many of the industries central in the affluent lifestyle such as fashion, sportswear, electronic goods employ exploitative labor rules and provide low wages for their workers. Because Chile's economic progress has to depend on low wages, further further growth appears difficult to attain.
