From the supplier: Downsizing, mergers and acquisitions, reengineering and other dramatic measures implemented by business organizations to ensure their survival can have psychological effects on employees. It has been suggested that survivors of organizational upheavals tend to experience a number of emotions, including fear, anxiety and stress, depression and guilt, anger, distrust, and a sense of betrayal. These negative attitudes and emotions can affect organizational performance through lower employee satisfaction and morale, higher rates of absenteeism and turnover, decreased job loyalty, increased workers' compensation claims, and less confidence in management. Survivors will require organizational therapy to be able to adjust to new business realities and to meet the challenges of the transformed organization. Such therapy is necessary to restore the survivors' trust and to restructure the sense of commitment between employer and employees.
