From the supplier: Central Illinois Public Service Co (CIPS) is an investor-owned public utility that generates, supplies and distributes electricity to central and southern Illinois. It also supplies and transports natural gas. In 1996, the company generated retail revenues of $554 million from its 322,000 electric customers, and $155 million from its 169,000 gas customers. CIPS's competitiveness is based on such strengths as a sound financial position, healthy cash flow, conservative management team, low-cost generating capacity, competitive rates, and strategic geographic location. The utility is a subsidiary of CIPSCO Inc, which will merge with Union Electric Co of St Louis, MO, to form Ameren Corp.
