From the supplier: Prime ministers and others who spoke in a 1992 service commemorating World War II attempted to shift the beginnings of modern Australian history from Gallipoli in World War I to the series of battles around Kokoda in World War II. Gallipoli is a more significant starting point, since it involved a concentrated Australian force that displayed ingenuity and heroism under profoundly adverse conditions, qualities Kokoda did not clearly demonstrate.
