From the supplier: The National Food Processors Assn together with the NASA hosted a joint workshop in the fall of 1997 which discussed the development of a commercial space center for food technology. The workshop was held due to NASA's desire to join forces with the food industry in the development of food, packaging and equipment to be used during the 2005 Europa and Jupiter Human and Robotics Mission and for the six-person, five-year Mars mission which is scheduled to commence in 2012. NASA needs food which are nutritious, palatable and which have an extended shelf life.
