Texas, which was once a Democratic Party supporter, has turned to the Republicans while California, a former Republican Party supporter, has become a Democratic state. These trends are of vital significance to the national elections since, their population alone comprise the majority of the voting population. Both Texas and California's shift to the Republicans and Democrats, respectively, began in the 1990s.
