From the supplier: State lawmakers need to consider certain issues to deal effectively with the media. First, they have to recognize the fact that reporters cannot be ignored and taken for granted. They must acquire a professional attitude toward the media and avoid viewing criticism as a personal affront. Instead, they need to develop a message that will help them communicate their thoughts and opinions to reporters. Also, legislators should not take a defensive stance when criticized by the media.
