From the supplier: Biotechnology firm Scotia Holdings released its patented Ileal Brake calorie-control product, called Olibra, as food additive in Skanemejerier's yogurt product, which was launched in Jan 1997 in Sweden. The patented palm and oat lipid extract claims to reduce snacking between meals as well as the overall consumption of calories by activating enterostatin and CCK, two peptides that signal the brain to stop fat consumption. Although preliminary tests indicate that the product is effective, more research is needed before the FDA approves its marketing in the US.
