From the supplier: The dramatic reduction in the crime rate in New York, NY since 1994 generated debate as to its causes. Economic factors, changes in illegal drug use, and demographic trends have been cited, but no real evidence supports these explanations. Three indications suggest that the police played a decisive role in the reduction: the use of a theory of crime prevention, the successful test of that theory in the subways, and experience in refining police work.
