Kelleher, a lawyer who has been with company since it began flying in 1971, has been recognized for his role in the transformation of Southwest Airlines from a small regional airline into a major carrier that is now the fourth-largest US airline, in terms of originating customers boarded. Kelleher, among other things, is honored for helping to uphold Southwest's remarkable record of profitability, its excellent reputation as a service provider and the airline's unusually harmonious labor-management relations.
