From the supplier: Assessments and evaluations conducted over the past 15 years have attempted to shed light on the academic rigor of distance education courses by considering factors such as the nature of the mediating technology, different instructional approaches and course content. Two trends have emerged: a preoccupation with the assessment of student performance and a reliance on student-centered data. Demographic information has also been emphasized as a metric. A shift in distance education investigations is suggested that would place the emphasis on an examination of the course and on the subsequent performance of the distance education student in other classes.
