This Manufacturing Insights update discusses the high-tech, electronics, and semiconductor industry sectors, which provide SAP with some of its largest market growth opportunities over the next three years. More than 25% of SAP Global Alliance Accounts reside in high tech, and aggressive software and services license targets lie in the high-tech area. After years of economic downturn and retrenchment in the industry, SAP feels that high tech is ripe for investment in new information applications, particularly among globally diverse, midmarket high-tech growth companies. This area also presents intense competition, with SAP rivals such as Oracle and Microsoft also targeting growth for these verticals and best-of-breed specialty applications vendors such as Siebel, Agile, Ariba, and i2 trying to maintain their industry footholds.
