Lin Yutang (1895-1976) was a Chinese writer whose original works and translations of classic Chinese texts were important in popularizing Chinese literature and understanding of Chinese culture in the West. He also created a new method of romanizing the Chinese language. His work was an effort to bridge the cultural gap between East and West.
