Description
"With the possible exception of the antibiotics, few drugs have influenced the practice of medicine as have the tranquilizing drugs. Since their introduction about four year ago, their use in treating mild and severe forms of mental disorders has brought about significant changes and advances in psychotherapeutics. Their use as adjuvant therapy in somatic illnesses has been no less remarkable. As these drugs become available, a new wealth of clinical and laboratory information comes into existence. Some of it is quickly disseminated in published reports, but much of it travels slowly---by word of mouth, mainly. It is hoped that this book, summarizing varied clinical experiences with the tranquilizer and antiemetic, prochlorperazine*, will help shorten this process of communication. This book was compiled by the Medical Department of Smith Kline & French Laboratories with the cooperation of physicians who have so graciously devoted their time and effort in preparing summaries of their clinical findings. (*Prochlorperazine is the generic name for 2-chloro-10-[3-(1-methyl-4-piperazinyl)-proply]-phenothiazine. It is manufactured in this country under the trademark Compazine.)" (from preface by M. R. Nance, M.D.)
