Applied Protective Relaying

Relays are compact analog networks that are connected throughout the power system to detect intolerable or unwanted conditions within an assigned area. They are, in effect, a form of active insurance designed to maintain a high degree of service continuity, and limit equipment damage. They are "Silent Sentinels". While protective relays will be the main emphasis of this book, other types of relays, applied on a more limited basis or used as part of a total protective relay system will also be covered.
