There is an old Southern mansion known as "Locust" where an old Confederate Colonel lived alone with his longtime servants. The colonel's only daughter and her Northern born husband returns and brings with them an infant daughter named Lloyd. The little girl's demeanor and style reminds the locals of the Colonel. She is thus nicknamed "The Little Colonel."
