Description
Rogers Communications and Bell Canada recently agreed to jointly build and manage a national fixed wireless broadband network.
"This coop-etition between the two rivals is widely seen as giving impetus to the development of a major national Canadian WiMAX service, and stands to make Canada a crucial test bed for vendors," says report author, Lawrence Surtees, vice-president of communications research at IDC Canada Ltd. "But the role of WiMAX and it's relationship to Third Generation services, such as UMTS-HSDPA, remains uncertain."
This study considers the rationale for the Rogers-Bell decision; it's possible impacts; and assesses the potential timeline for the introduction of WiMAX services.
