At the end of September 2006, there were 4.68 million fixed lines in South Africa , representing a decrease of 0.7% from March 2006. The constant decline in fixed line numbers over the last 6 years can be attributed to continued migration from fixed to mobile services and from a significant decrease in network rollout.
