Basic Life Support (BLS) For Healthcare Providers - Updated With AED Use For Children

The AHA offers a variety of courses on basic life support (BLS) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for healthcare providers. With the knowledge and skills you learn in these courses, you can save the life of a family member, a friend, a coworker, a citizen in your community, or a patient in the hospital or clinic where you work. This course will teach you how to recognize and respond to life threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and foreign body airway obstruction. You will learn to recognize heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulty in children. This course teaches the skills needed to respond to the emergencies you identify. You will learn the skill of CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. This manual is designed to provide information that will be useful to you before, during and after the BLS for Healthcare Providers Course. It contains several features designed to help you learn CPR, ventilation with a barrier device and a bag-mask device, and use of an AED. Each chapter includes learning objectives, a learning checklist, and review questions.
