Bulthaup GmbH & Co. KG is a German kitchen manufacturer, founded in 1949 by Martin Bulthaup. The company is located in Aich near Bodenkirchen in Lower Bavaria. Following Martin Bulthaup's death, his son Gerd Bulthaup became the head of the company in 1978. Gerd Bulthaup, in seeking to expand the business, came into contact with designer Otl Aicher, whose design ideas were largely based on the principles of the Bauhaus school which favors simplified forms and functionality.
