Japan Server 2008-2012 Forecast Update and First Half 2008 Analysis

In this study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8010108), we analyze the performance of the Japan server market in 1H08 (January-June) and provide forecasts for the period 2008-2012.

"The Japan server market showed signs of recovery in 1H08. Mainframes and x86 servers performed well. However, the market's performance in 1H08 was partly the result of transitory factors. In actuality, the Japan server market has not improved from the previous term. In fact, it has started to buckle under the weight of the economic recession in Japan. In light of this, IDC has revised the previous forecast for 2008 and subsequent years downward," says Masahiro Nakamura, group manager, Server Research, IDC Japan.
