Jesper Thilo Quintet Featuring Harry Edison

Jesper Thilo is one of Europe's top tenor saxophonists, but guest trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison takes solo honors on this outstanding CD. Following a swinging opening track, "On The Trail," the quintet plus their guest cover a number of gems from the Great American Songbook including, "What's New," "Satin Doll," and "There Will Never Be Another You." Thilo has developed a style that incorporates elements of many greats who preceded him on his instrument without sounding like a clone of any of them. Pianist Ole Kock Hansen, a frequent pianist on Storyville sessions, provides inspired backing as well as some strong solos. But it is the work of Edison, who was 70 at the time of these sessions and still in his prime as a performer, that makes this release an essential acquisition.
