About the Author
ALBERT PAYSON TERHUNE [1872-1942] was born in New Jersey. His father was a church minister and his mother wrote fiction and nonfiction books using the pen name Marion Harland. In 1893, he graduated from Columbia University. From 1894-1914, he was a journalist at the Evening World. From 1912, he lived at the family estate, Sunnybank, in Wayne, New Jersey. From 1896, he published in book form stories that he originally published in magazines like Redbook, Greenbook, AKC Gazette, and Ladies Home Journal. At Sunnybank, he bred collies. His first book inspired by his dogs was Lad: A Dog (1919), which was made into a film in 1962. His books were very well received. He wrote approxomately three-dozen books, novels and collected stories, about dogs. Today, his former home and breeding kennels are maintained as Terhune-Sunnybank Park.
