Description

This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8460108) presents an analysis of the success factors in the implementation and the current use of SOA among Japan companies. It is based on the results of an IDC survey conducted on user companies and case studies of companies that have implemented SOA. Vendors were then given advise based on these analyses.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) has reached a certain level of pervasiveness among Japan companies. However, there are still issues that companies have to resolve in order to realize the full effects of SOA implementation. "Vendors are expected to provide different kinds of services to support problems encountered by user companies during SOA implementation/development. This support goes beyond SOA-based system design/development and includes support for the approval process within user companies during the initial stage of implementation, support for the formulation of SOA strategies, and provision of technical support for stable SOA operations," analyzed Mimei Ito, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
