Chronic infection with hepatitis C virus can lead to liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Treatment options include interferon or peginterferon, and ribavirin. The objective of treatment is to eradicate the infection in an effort to prevent complications of hepatitis C virus infection.
